Lesson 2: What employee benefits should remain in-house and what should be outsourced
Are your employee benefits designed as a sales tool at recruitment events? Are your benefits aimed to match your competitor’s offerings? Is your intention to develop your employer branding and attract the best talent? Maybe you are aiming to improve your staff loyalty and retention?
If you are serious about your employee benefits program and your goal is to move beyond "ticking the box" then there is a simple lesson to share: Focus your attention on the benefits that align with your daily objectives and outsource the benefits that assume too much work.
Remuneration policy, education, training, childcare, bonus incentives, superannuation, healthcare and employee wellbeing - these are core employee benefits that are a full time job in themselves.
Without a professional outsource partner, your benefits program will unlikely offer an extended range of benefits that will keep your employees interested in your program. Managing deals on popular products, events, entertainment and the like also requires daily attention (if not more).
It’s these non-core supplementary benefits that will allow your program to succeed over a longer term.
Your outsource provider should be a partner, they should fill your gaps, allow you to focus on your key objectives while enhancing and supporting your activities.
The next lesson deals with effective employee communication. I’ll share with you a major insight that will assist you to overcome the communication barrier.
